Music in our lives and work – an escape or a catalyst for change?

Fri, 28th June, 2024 from 9:30 AM, in London

As people committed to their long term personal development, happy to experience and experiment with different catalysts for learning, we invite you to our next London Sadler Heath workshop.

It is very easy to comment on the “power of music” without exploring what we are really talking about. It can be many things from leisure time listening or going to concerts and live events to playing in an orchestra or singing in a choir.  But it is the abstract nature of music itself that is able to create many different responses and possibilities.  That abstractness can enable listeners to have different emotional responses and thoughts while hearing the same piece, and for a single listener to respond differently at different times.

Using some carefully chosen musical stimuli, Claire Kitay will take us on a musical journey and help us to learn to work with active and focused listening.  We will explore how the inherent qualities of music itself can bring about insights, which can then be used to look at situations in the workplace and beyond.

This is also an opportunity to give yourself space away from the day-t0-day pressures and connect deeply with others also experimenting and experiencing this learning frame.

A light breakfast will be provided at 9am with formal events starting at 9:30am, finishing by 12:45pm.

Currently Claire works as an HCPC registered music therapist, organist, piano teacher and ABRSM examiner.  She has worked in music for more than 30 years, starting her career as a cathedral organist, retraining as a music therapist 20 years ago.  Claire has extensive experience of working in many formats – from solo performer to choral work to therapist in the NHS.

Sadler Heath is a not-for-profit organisation focused on supporting a significant community of active learners.  Nobody gets paid anything – the contribution we hope for covers the cost of the accommodation and any surplus goes towards meeting our accounting and website costs.  Our catalyst for learning (in this case Claire) brings her expertise also on her learning edge so that the learning experience is mutual.  We hope you will be comfortable contributing £45 towards the cost of the event but if cost is an issue please do just let Jeremy know and you are welcome to come as our guest.
