Nature as a dynamic co partner

Wed, 15th May, 2019 from 2:00 PM, in Lewes

This workshop will offer the opportunity to experience first-hand the powerful impact of inviting nature into an inquiry process, within a beautiful nature reserve setting. Some practitioners ‘walk and talk’ with their clients but nature offers so much more potential with its rich dynamic tapestry, enabling a deeper level of noticing and internal processing. Whilst there will be a light touch dip into ecotherapy to offer some theoretical foundation for this work, the primary focus will be on practical tools to integrate nature into your own practice, whether that be coaching, therapy or self-reflection.

Take-aways will include:

1)     How to build psychological containment and safety in an open space

2)     When it is (not) appropriate to work with a client outdoors

3)     How to work with the dynamism and stillness of nature to increase our somatic processing, both as practitioner and client.

Please come prepared with:

1.Comfortable clothing/footwear – the physical walking pace needs to be slow to invite an internal slowing down so bring an extra layer for keeping warm. If the weather is exceptionally bad we will bring nature indoors instead, otherwise we shall use whatever is presented as an additional tool for our work.

2.An issue that you would be willing to explore with a partner; the focus will be on the process of inquiry rather than on necessarily reaching a specific outcome in the limited time.

Catherine Gorham is an experienced coach, accredited supervisor and consultant on leadership and complex change. She won the Most Outstanding Leadership Coach UK Award in 2017. Previously an internal consultant in challenging organisational contexts such as the NHS and Home Office, she now runs her own private practice; this includes the role of Master Coach for Frontline, a charity developing individuals to be social workers and leaders of transformation. Her passion for the natural world has led her to integrate this into her work and she is excited to now be delivering masterclasses to coaches and supervisors, equipping them to do the same, safely and skilfully.
